Welcome to WritersGathering! I am Julie Gardner – a writer, educator, counselor, Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA) Affiliate and Nationally Certified Life-Legacies Facilitator. Since 2010, I have led writing workshops and retreats in the Seattle area. In 2018, I moved to beautiful and peaceful Bainbridge Island. I’m often in Brazil and Norway sharing precious time with my grandsons and their families. When I’m home, I love to gather with other writers.

I’m honored to have a poem I wrote Stirring More Than Chicken Noodle Soup, in Salt Water, a safe harbor for those who have lost someone.
I’m honored and excited to be part of this Washington State Book Award winning book raising money for indie bookstores.
For seven years, I led a weekly writing group at Mary’s Place, a day center for women experiencing or having experienced homelessness. Some of the women’s writings were published in Original Voices: Homeless and Formerly Homeless Women’s Writings.
Life brings surprises. This book led to a collaboration with librettists from Opera on Tap who are creating the opera Joan of the City. I am grateful for this opportunity, for the voices of women, who often go unheard, to reach a wider audience.
Original Voices: Homeless and Formerly Homeless Women’s Writings by the Women of Mary’s Place, edited by Julie Gardner, is on Amazon (paperback and Kindle) and available at bookstores. When you purchase Original Voices you are giving a gift to Mary’s Place, empowering homeless women, children and families to reclaim their lives.
